ResourcesHere is a list of resources I have found useful in my quest for knowledge about the alpaca industry. AlpacaNation - This is the #1 site I've found for all things alpaca. It has educational articles, community forums, classified ads, lists of alpaca services, and the ability to search for alpacas. Alpaca Fiber Co-op of North America - Our fiber co-op. We send half of our annual fiber clip to this organization. They manufacture it into finished products, which we can then buy at reduced prices. We make these products available to consumers through our farm store. The fiber co-op is working to make our alpaca fiber industry a viable and achievable goal. Membership in the co-op requires a $250 one-time fee. Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA) - This is the organization that governs shows. They also maintain a directory of alpaca ranches and farms, and perform significant marketing for our industry. On their site, you can find a list of alpaca shows, along with dates and locations. Quality Llama Products - Supplier of products for llama and alpaca ranches, i.e. grooming supplies, medicines, supplements, etc. Jeffers Livestock - Supplier of products for all types of ranches. Useful Llama and Alpaca Items - Another supplier of products for llama and alpaca ranches. Wilkins Livestock Insurers - Providers of life insurance for the alpaca industry. Prairie States Livestock Insurers - Providers of life insurance for the alpaca industry. =============================================== Here's a recipe for Nose Goo - a messy concoction which excels at healing and growing new fleece on your alpaca's bare spots, such as nose and ears. It also helps repel insects which might cause further irritation. Mix the following ingredients well, and use it to completely cover any bare spots. Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment - 1 tube of the original formula 8 capsules of Vitamin E oil - cut open the capsules and squeeze out the oil 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil Mix all ingredients thoroughly, and store in a small, resealable container. Apply the mixture to your alpaca's bare spots once or twice per day. You should begin to see hair regrowth within a few days. =============================================== If you know of a link you feel would be beneficial to others and should appear on this page, please email us. |
